New Years Day Cabbie Attack.
Police are seeking help from a brave motorist who stopped to assist Taxi driver Shair Abdi early on New Years Morning while trying to flee an angry passenger.
Mr Abdi, had stopped on Hill View Terrace after the man hailed him. Once in the taxi the man asked to be taken to Spearwood but didn’t have enough money to cover the fare. He became abusive upon being asked to leave the taxi. He opened the rear door of the taxi as he left and as Mr Abdi got out to close it he was attacked from behind.
Mr Abdi had his wallet and cash stolen whilst being punched repeatedly in an attack lasting 15 minutes.
Mr Abdi said he believed he might have been killed if the unidentified driver had not stopped to help.
“It was very scary and I was shocked. I don’t feel comfortable (returning to work) at the moment ,” he said.
Police say: The wanted man is a slightly built Caucasian, about 174cm tal and has short black hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans.
Anyone who can identify the man is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Golder Rule….Never get out of the taxi early Wednesday morning here in Townsville we had a female driver who got out to assist a female passenger being assualted kicked in the stomach…This brain dead fool then ran a block and got into another taxi and went to his own address needless to say he is as I understand it in custody….Both drivers broke a golden rule though…in your story he got out to close the door? whats wrong with leaning over the back and closing the door from inside the taxi??? your not exposing yourself then are you?? while I have some sympathy for both drivers their own actions did contribute to both assualts

Yes he got out of the cab to close the door. I say why move from the driving position at all?? Simply accelerate hard for a second then hit the brakes. The door will close then you can take off again, staying at all times in and in control of the vehicle which is your best asset in that situation.
I wouldn’t have a go at the driver face to face because he has been through a horrible experience and nothing will change what has happened. I just want to get other drivers to think about what they can do to minimise these types of things.

I WOULD HAZARD A GUESS THIS DRIVER OBVIOUSLY OF MIDDLE EASTERN BACKGROUND GOT OUT OF THE TAXI TO CONFRONT THE AUSSIE WHO HE ALLEGES DIDNT PAY THE FARE.
I THINK WE SHOULD HEAR BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY BEFORE WE SPILL OUR HEARTS.
SOME OF THESE TAXI DRIVERS FROM CERTAIN BACKGROUNDS HAVE ATTITUDE PROBLEMS.
